The Westin Dublin has just been awarded the
Green Hospitality Awards Platinum Award. The Platinum Award is the highest
certified award available under the GHA programme. As part of its drive for
environmental excellence, the property has undertaken extensive improvements
recently, including over 100 specific actions designed to minimise waste,
improve energy efficiency and reduce water consumption.
There are four award levels through the
GHA. The Platinum Award goes to those hotels designated as following
World-class Best Practice and recognises hospitality businesses which are
kindest to the environment. Andrew Henning, General Manager of The Westin
Dublin, was delighted with the Platinum Award:
"Our team at The Westin Dublin, in
particular Dympna McGlinchey, and the members of our Green Council, have been
working very hard to reduce our carbon footprint," he said. "To achieve the
highest award accreditation available under the Green Hospitality Awards
programme makes us immensely proud and it is wonderful to have our efforts
recognised in this way. We are totally committed to our Green Journey and will
continue to embrace responsibility for our environment in every way that we
can."
Dympna McGlinchey, the Irish Hospitality
Institute's Environmental Hospitality Manager of The Year in 2009, is
chairperson and one of the founders of The Westin Dublin's Green Council.
Dympna has been instrumental in leading the hotel's implementation of the
hotel's Green Journey, leading to this coveted Platinum Award.
"The mission of the hotel's Green Council,
founded in March 2008, was to implement the Green Journey," says Dympna
McGlinchey. "The Green Journey is an exciting awareness programme which benefits
all associates, not only in the workplace but in their personal lives as well.
Getting our staff involved is crucial."
